GPS Tracking System
GPS tracking is a technology that uses a network of
satellites orbiting the Earth to calculate and pinpoint specific
locations anywhere in the world. GPS stands for Global Positioning
System and while this technology was originally developed for use in the
American military, this tracking system is growing in popularity amongst
private users the world around. One of the most common uses of GPS
locators is in vehicles. Installing a GPS tracking system in
your car will not only add to your convenience but will also give you
peace of mind. A positioning system receiver installed in your car will
usually come with a geographical map application that gives you detailed
navigational instruction (both audio and visual) to any specified
location. This not only helps you save the trouble of leafing through
complicated maps and street directories but also helps you save time
because with a system like this, you are less likely to get lost. In
addition, a positioning system will always give you the option of
choosing the shortest route to any destination, therefore, saving you
precious petrol in the long run. If you have teenagers who can drive
and with whom you frequently share your car with, you can use the GPS
tracking device to monitor their every move. Because a positioning
receiver will enable you to gather information such as the direction the
vehicle is traveling towards, the speed of the vehicle and where the
vehicle has been, you will be able to double check whether your son or
daughter is going where they told you they are going, whether they've
been driving safely, etc. The uniqueness of this device is its ability
to access information from the Internet; you should be able to access
the information recorded by your GPS unit as long as you have connection
to the World Wide Web. This comes in extremely useful as it means that
you can monitor the movements of your vehicle even if you are halfway
around the world (on vacation for example). A GPS tracker will
also come in handy in the case of car theft. If a vehicle has been
fitted with a receiver of this type, that vehicle can be tracked
anywhere, anytime, as long as the receiver remains in the car. The same
goes for criminals on the run from the law. Law enforcement agencies
have used GPS tracking systems to chase and catch law-breakers
who are trying to escape being caught. With a system like this, these
agencies have also used (with success) positioning receivers to pinpoint
the exact location of officers in need of backup or officers who have
been injured and in need of immediate medical attention. With the
advent of technology, GPS receivers have been designed to be as small as
a wristwatch or a pager and parents have used these devices to their
advantage - to give them a peace of mind. Worn or carried on a child,
parents can use the positioning system to ensure the safety of their
child by knowing exactly where they are at any time. This has come in
valuable in kidnap cases where GPS tracking has been used to
pinpoint the exact location that the child has been taken to; the only
drawback to this is that it is only useful as long as it is worn by the
child and loses its effectiveness if the kidnapper discovers the device
and removes it. Some GPS receivers can even be connected to alarm
signals that are programmed to sound an alert if a child enters an area
that is beyond the set perimeters he or she is allowed to travel.
